  • June 2007 News From Government:
    • The lawyers dealing with the application for the development of Port St. George received notification from the Office of The Prime Minister of The Bahamas that the National Economic Council had considered the proposal and had approved in principle the proposed development. There are several conditions which must be complied with, but on first reading these seem to be only what we had been told to expect. This news, which comes exactly seven weeks after the new Government were elected and just four weeks after the new Parliament sat for the first time, arrived by e-mail overnight last night. It was accompanied by a message of congratulations from our lawyers and quickly followed by similar messages from our Nassau based consultants Islands By Design and from the present landowners. Further information will follow as soon as it is available.

  • May 2007 General Election:
    • We have always been advised that in the event of a change of Government our application would not be any less likely to succeed. Now that the change of Government has occurred the advice we are receiving remains the same. Our application will be processed on its merits, irrespective of which party is in power. Although the change of Government is likely to lead to a short term delay while the new people get to grips with pending applications, we are told to expect that, thereafter, the approvals process is likely to be dealt with more rapidly. In the run up to the election the issue of giving away Crown Land in order to secure foreign investment into anchor projects came in for strong criticsim and that practice is now likely to end, or at the very least be severely curtailed. The Port St. George application does not involve any request for Crown Land and so should be unaffected by this issue. The opinion of both our lawyers and consultants remains unchanged and both advise that Port St. George should receive approval in due course.

  • November 2006 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show:
    • The marine industry of South Florida generates $13.6billion of Florida′s $18.4billion economic impact, with $10.8billion coming from Broward County alone. This show is big news for lots of people on a global scale. Port St. George Investments Limited were in attendance, set up by existing PSG investors with a view to selling on the Right to Buy documents. Their stand attracted its fair share of interest. Practically  everyone who had visited Stella Maris said what a wonderful place it is, and what a fabulous time they had there. A few people did remark they had been disappointed as the existing marina entrance was too shallow for their boat, but said they would happily return once the channel has been dredged. The response to the idea of being able to buy into the development at an early stage, especially for the dockage, was enormous and the Port St. George Investments team came back with over a hundred contacts. Surprise was shown at the speed with which this project is moving forward. Whilst there our PSG rep, Lynda, met up with Kaye Pearson from International Marinas www.internationalmarinas.com and also Bob Moss from Moss Construction Managers www.mosscm.com . These companies showed a keen interest in the development. Lynda also met with the Chief Operating Officer of International Marinas, Fred Barboni, at his suggestion. This company manage and maintain substantial marina operations and they see PSG as a welcome addition and a perfect stop off point for people travelling from Florida, through Chubb Cay and farther onto Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. The show proved very productive for both PSGI Ltd and the PSG development. The north American market is actively looking for this type of marine project.
